GEAR UP / College & Career Resources
GEAR UP stands for "Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs" and provides college-readiness support to Wa-Hi students and families in the following ways:
For Students:
- Tutoring during and after school
- Enriched technology-based curriculum, especially in reading, writing, and math
- College campus visits
- Motivational speakers
- Support throughout all four years of high school
- Scholarship assistance for select students
For Parents:
- Leadership training
- Facilitating grass-roots community development
- Educational classes and workshops on topics such as paying for college, applying for college and financial aid, writing the college application essay, and selecting a college
For Teachers:
- Staff development in areas such as ESL and reading endorsement
- Classroom technology and curriculum
