GEAR UP stands for "Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs" and provides college-readiness support to Wa-Hi students and families in the following ways:
For Students:
Tutoring during and after school
Enriched technology-based curriculum, especially in reading, writing, and math
College campus visits
Motivational speakers
Support for classes of 2026-2027
Scholarship assistance for select students
For Parents:
Leadership training
Facilitating grass-roots community development
Educational classes and workshops on topics such as paying for college, applying for college and financial aid, writing the college application essay, and selecting a college
For Teachers:
Staff development in areas such as ESL and reading endorsement
