April 27 and 28, seven Wa-Hi music students competed in the State Solo & Ensemble event, held at Central Washington University.

In order to attend, students had to have placed first in their category at the regional level, or have been selected as an alternate who placed second.

This year, Blake Averett, Trevor Kytola and Keeli McKern all returned to compete in the same medium as last year. Peter Hoffman attended two years ago for a Viola Solo.

Caroline Blethen and Amanda Loney sang in the Small Soprano/Mezzo/Alto Category. Thomas Kaminsky and Keeli McKern performed in the Small Woodwind Ensemble Category. Thomas Kaminsky also performed in the Flute Category and Keeli McKern also performed in the Clarinet Category. Blake Averett performed in the Piano Category. Peter Hoffman performed in the Bass Category and Trevor Kytola performed in the Tenor Category.

The top three students from each category place at state. While Wa-Hi did not have any placers, there were several contenders for the top three.
