Debate ties for first place

The debate team tied for first in the Large School Debate category with Chiawana High School on Nov. 19.

Sixteen schools competed in the tournament, which was held in Pasco at Columbia Basin College. Several Wa-Hi students placed in events.

Junior Seamus Duffy placed second in novice Lincoln-Douglas (LD) Debate

Senior Amelia Mott placed second in open LD and second in open Interpretive Reading

Senior Wafa Abedin took first in open LD

Abedin and Mott also took first place in open Duo Interpretation, 

Sophomore Josh Rose placed second in open Congressional Debate, second in open Extemporaneous Speaking, and first in open Impromptu; 

Junior Emma Case placed 3rd in Open Extemporaneous

Freshman Ella Norsthworthy placed second in novice Editorial Commentary

The debate team will compete next in Wenatchee, Washington on Dec. 10.
