| Four Steps to Graduation | |
4 Steps to GraduationIn 2000, the State Board of Education approved four new statewide graduation requirements to take effect with the graduating Class of 2008. This class was chosen because it is the first class educated with the state's learning standards since kindergarten. Together, the requirements are designed to ensure that every public high school student graduates with the following fundamental skills outlined in the State's Essential Academic Learning Requirements. 1. Craft a High School and Beyond Plan, which will be included in the Walla Walla High School Culminating Project. 2. Earn Walla Walla High School Credit Requirements: TOTAL - 22 credits 3. Earn Certificate of Academic Achievement or Certificate of Individual Achievement • CAA (Certificate of Academic Achievement): The CAA is a state-endorsement of a student's skills in reading, writing and mathematics. The certificate tells business and colleges that you have a certain level of skills and knowledge in these subjects. • CIA (Certificate of Individual Achievement): The CIA is a state-approved alternatives or assessment for students in special education. The certificate tells business and colleges that you have a certain level of skills and knowledge in these subjects. • CAA Options (Certificate of Academic Achievement Options): Some students with strong skills may need to use an assessment other than the WASL to demonstrate their skills. For these students, the CAA Options, which is a state-approved alternative to the WASL, are available. 4. Complete the Walla Walla High School Culminating Project. • This is a portfolio-based project which will provide students with opportunities to examine their skills and abilities, as well as articulate plans for their future. • A Senior Presentation is a required component of the project.
