2018 Fall Sports Registration Begins Wednesday, August 1st on FamilyID

2018 Fall Sports Registration at all WWPS secondary schools begins Wednesday, August 1st on FamilyID.

Fall Sports include:

  • Cross Country - Boys & Girls
  • Football- Boys & Girls
  • Softball, Slowpitch- Girls (new this year)
  • Soccer- Girls
  • Swimming- Girls

Registration is required for all participants, even if you have participated in a summer sport activity.  Registration on FamilyID is easy and is open 24/7 during the registration window for each sport.  Most people even have success registering from their phones.  Registration requires insurance and signatures from the parent/legal guardian as well as the athlete.

A current sports physical with no limitations that is good through the last day of the state tournament for that sport must be on file with the school or attached to the registration.

There is no fee to participate in sports this year.  Only the yearly ASB membership is needed at the high-school level.

12-Season Athletes for 2018

Every year we honor our student-athletes who had the persistence to complete each sports season while they were at Walla Walla High School.  This year we had four seniors Faith Hoe, Lauren Hoe, Edwin Romero-Virrey, and Emma Wenzel.  Emma, Faith, and Lauren did it all while maintaining over 3.0 GPAs.  Emma finished with a 3.9 GPA.

Edwin participated in Football, Wrestling, and Soccer each year. He also received his 4-year varsity letter in Wrestling and Soccer.  Faith and Lauren participated in Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball each year. They received their 4-year varsity letters in Basketball and Softball.  Emma participated in Volleyball, Basketball, and got her 4-year varsity letter in Track.

We couldn't be more proud of these senior athletes.  They are not only great students and athletes, they are great examples of what it means to be a Wa-Hi Blue Devil.

New Basketball Coaches Announced

Meet and greet planned Wednesday for new Wa-Hi Boys’ and Girls’ Head Basketball coaches

Walla Walla High School Athletic Director Dirk Hansen announces familiar faces will step up to lead the school’s varsity basketball teams next season. Mike Patterson has been named the new Boys’ Varsity Head Basketball coach and Morgan Jo Poyner the new Girls’ Varsity Head Basketball coach. There was a robust candidate pool for these positions. The hiring process included a comprehensive interview, broad advertisement campaign and involvement from the Wa-Hi Booster Club, area youth coaches and parents.

Patterson has served as the varsity assistant coach in the boys’ program for the last four years under Coach John Golden. He brings 16 years of basketball coaching experience to the position, including a head coach role during his career.

“Mike is very excited for this great opportunity to lead our boys’ basketball program,” said Hansen.

Poyner has served as a varsity assistant coach in the Wa-Hi girls’ basketball program for the past three years. She has an extensive background in coaching girls’ basketball and is very appreciative and excited to be the next head girls’ basketball coach, according to Hansen.

“Morgan played collegiate basketball at both Walla Walla Community College and at Warner Pacific College and she was also a graduate assistant at Whitworth University for one year,” said Hansen.

Walla Walla High School Athletics is planning a meet and greet event Wednesday, May 9 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Wa-Hi main gym in the Fletcher room. Both new head coaches are eager to share their coaching philosophies and provide a program overview.

Wa-Hi Students Kyle Carver and Ruben Balderas traveled to our State Capital in Olympia Washington

On Monday and Tuesday of this week,  Wa-Hi Students Kyle Carver and Ruben Balderas traveled to our State Capital in Olympia Washington. Ruben and Kyle spent their time talking to State legislators about the importance of afterschool programs in Walla Walla. They shared how After School programs during their middle school years and now in high school have influenced in their own lives for the better. Ruben also served as a panelist on the Expanded Learning Opportunities Quality Standards Initiative which presented to the House Committee on Education. These two students will travel to Washington, D.C. later this year to educate our federal congressional members about afterschool programming in our district and state.
